IN-PROCESS PART PROBING

In the adjacent application a closely controlled diameter is being gauged and the tool offset automatically adjusted via feedback from a touch probe mounted on the cross working platen. Star GB fit M&H probe systems manufactured in Germany, these systems offer excellent reliability and resistance to coolant contamination with an IP68 rating.

TOOL BREAKAGE DETECT

Sliding head machines equipped with a turret can benefit from Star GB’s tool breakage detect system. In the adjacent application an M & H probe with a square stylus is mounted on the turret, tools on the opposite platen or turret can then be checked against the probe for integrity. Should the tool have failed the machine enters an alarm state and no scrap parts will be produced.

IN-PROCESS PART PROBING

In the adjacent application on an ST-38 machine a closely controlled diameter is being gauged with an M&H probe mounted on the path 3 turret. The tool offset for the finish turning tool (mounted on the path 1 turret) is automatically adjusted via feedback from the probe.

POST PROCESS PART PROBING

Post process part probing with automatic tool wear offset updates is easily achieved using Renishaw’s Equator 300 Gauging System equipped with their Intelligent Process Control (IPC) software. Watch the video to see how Star, Fanuc Robotics and Renishaw combined to produce a fully automated production cell with post process control. To see this cell in action contact the Innovation Centre at Renishaw’s New Mills factory in Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire.
